Spring Steelhead Heli-Fishing

We have at our fingertips, six major classified waters of the B.C. central coast, plus many remote unclassified rivers of northern Vancouver Island and the adjacent mainland. Here, we angle for Steelhead which weigh in at 10 to 30 pounds. Your helicopter accompanies you all day, throughout this Angling Odyssey.

The fishery is Catch and Release, using barbless hooks. Fly cast, spin or drift fishing are the preferred methods of catching these mystical fish. Care and stealth must be taken while angling for Steelhead. Every effort must be taken to approach quietly and cast perfectly to hook up with these chrome beauties. For fly fishers, an eight weight rod using reels lined with floating line / sink tip is recommended during our spring fishery – 250 to 300 yds. of backing behind the fly line is necessary. 12 lb. test spin line or drift line should be used for anglers using this style of gear. For our summer steelhead fishery an 8 weight rod is recommended and floating line and a dry fly can be used, Bring your own fly rod and reel or drifting gear. We have the necessary spinning gear if this is your preferred method of angling. Fly fishing gear is also available at the lodge for those wishing to travel light. Leave your waders and boots at home. River gear and all-weather gear are provided for your comfort. Terminal tackle is available at the resort but you can bring your own tried and tested flies and lures.

Each trip is from Monday to Thursday or Thursday to Monday.  You arrive Monday or Thursday evening  in time for a coastal feast, fish for the next three or four days, and depart in the evening of your final day for your travel home. Guests are responsible for transportation to Port Hardy and return. Our office will assist you in booking these flights.  Private jets may fly direct to Port Hardy (YZT) landing by 5:30PM and we will bring you by helicopter to Nimmo Bay for our Summer Steelhead fishery or to Port McNeill where we operate our Winter/Spring Steelhead fishery.

Starting in 2009 our Winter/Spring Steelhead fishery will accommodate global anglers in Port McNeill, B.C. Northern Vancouver Island. This will be our new Winter/Spring satellite base and we access all the same Rivers with the same helicopters, pilots and guides as we do with our Summer fishery from Nimmo Bay. Our office will arrange all of your accommodations and dining experiences. Please call to make reservations at 1 800 837- 4354

Extras are taxes, specialty alcohol, fishing licenses, and gratuities. With our Winter/Spring fishery in Port McNeill, dining opportunities for breakfast and for dinner will be the choice of our guests and a daily gourmet lunch is provided. Winter/Spring Steelhead fishing starts Mid-December 2008 and continues until the end of May 2009. Summer Steelhead fishing commences early August and carries on until the end of September.  This Summer fishery has the added benefit of being able to cast for Wild Pacific Salmon, Cutthroat and Rainbow Trout and Dolly Varden Char.

An A-Star helicopter with four anglers and two professional guides or a Jet Ranger helicopter with two anglers and one professional pilot/guide wil take our Nimmo Bay fishers on the Angling Odyssey of a lifetime. We soar over 50,000 square miles of coastal wilderness, from sea level to 7,000 feet seeking out Wild Steelhead in an abundance of pristine rivers. Your angling opportunity has just increased exponentially.
